History of Shutters in America
Wooden Plantation Shutters have been around since the times of King Louis XIV of France. He staunchly advocated for them to be apart of his palace decorum. In addition to protection from the sun, wood shutters back then were able to provide insulation, while acting as a barrier to insects and rainwater from entering.
Eventually, shutter technology was brought to America by the Spaniards. In the Southern regions, these shutters were adopted for plantation manors where the term “Plantation Shutters” came to be. Today many integrate shutters in their homes not just for functionality but also for convenience and aesthetics.
Shutters have a long history of protecting windows on the outside of the home and now we are able to provide a modern aesthetic while maintaining the elegance of the past.
